This tecnique was invented in the island of Murano during the 15th century.

It consisted in a vitreous paste with multicolored veins imitating a variety of natural

chalcedony untill the original formula of its manufacture was lost many years ago.

In our days this tecnique is obtained by melting silver and some mineral oxides, usually

copper, iron or manganise, with opaline glass.
